CARING FOR YOUR SKIN AFTER WAXING
So you have a lovely clean wax but now you want to make sure that it lasts as long as possible – especially if you are going on holiday.
There are a number of things you can avoid that will help to maintain your wax and to keep your skin in great condition!
For the next 24 hours try to avoid excessive perspiration and friction. That means not throwing on your active kit and heading out for a parkrun. Waxing pulls out the hairs from under the skin and that can make the surface quite sensitive.
The same goes for saunas and the steamroom, please avoid at all costs as waxing can make your skin sensitive to heat. We also like to advise that you don’t luxuriate in a hot bath either and to keep the water temperature cool for any showers.
Swimming is also to be knocked on the head as the chlorine in the water can aggravate the skin.
The same problems of irritation can come from wearing tight clothing. We also suggest that you try to avoid wearing deodorant if you have had your underarms waxed, and makeup if you have had any facial waxing.
Stay out the sun for the next 24 hours too – or if you have to be outside cover up any waxed area with loose clothing – this will help to prevent any burning or irritation from the heat on your already hot skin.
The other issue to be aware of for 24/48 hours is that sun-lotion and body lotions while doing good can also irritate your skin and clog up your pores which can potentially cause in-grown hairs. In-grown hairs present as small red bumps and appear when the hair gets trapped under the skin.
To help prevent any ingrown hairs, once 48hours have passed you should gently exfoliate your skin regularly. We recommend Waxperts Wonder Pads – they contain salicylic acid to prevent and treat ingrown hairs on any area of the body. They are gentle enough to use daily and will help to prevent any unsightly lumps or bumps!
Finally one big question we get asked all the time is ‘Can we shave or use depilatory creams between waxes?’ The answer is a resounding ‘NO’.
Waxing removes the hair follicle below the skin meaning that regrowth is slower, slighter and sparser. It usually takes four treatments for this new hair growth to become apparent. If you shave or use creams between waxing you only encourage thicker and faster growth. Please don’t do it if you want a better experience with waxing.
Other than that, enjoy your clean and smooth skin!
